Pentacle Press announced the availability of Key Facts about the California Missions: A Complete Set of Laminated Pages with Vital Information . The set includes a full two pages of information and images on each mission, providing dates, names, descriptions of important events, historic illustrations , PLAT maps, architectural drawings etc. The collection was developed for use by teachers, libraries, mission docents and others who need a comprehensive, concise and durable reference document. They are printed on heavy stock and laminated, and they measure 8 1/2" x 8 1/2." The 21 sheets for each mission and a special sheet showing demographics and population data on the missions are shrink-wrapped and packaged with a cloth dust cover that will preserve and store the collection.

David J. McLaughlin addressed the annual California Mission Curators Conference in Santa Barbara California on September 19. His presentation "Getting it Right - Making it Interesting" discussed the development of the California Missions Source Book and the role that mission scholars, curators, subject experts and others played in the process. McLaughlin also displayed large 20 " x 14" full color drawings of mission events. These captivating illustrations are based on black and white drawings done by Alexander Harmer and A.B. Dodge almost a century ago. Pentacle Press is the process of colorizing all 40 of these drawings. The original drawings first appeared in Volumes 2, 3 and 4 of Missions and Missionaries of California by Zephrin Engelhardt, published between 1908-1915.

The University of New Mexico Press and Pentacle Press reached an agreement under which UNM Press will distribute the company's latest book, The California Mission Source Book by David J. McLaughlin with Rubén Mendoza. UNM will be the primary distributor and handle all sales to book chains, independent bookstores, colleges and universities, libraries and other outlets. Pentacle Press will handle distribution to the California Mission Gift Shops and Museum stores. The book will available online in late October at www.missionscalifornia.com, amazon.com, and barnesandnoble.com, and at most bookstores.

"California Missions: A Mixed Legacy" by David J. McLaughlin was published in the March / April Issue of Native Peoples Magazine, pp 21-25. The article explores the essential role of the native Americans in the missions, which were used by the Spanish to settle Alta California beginning in 1769. The article includes a two-page addendum that provides brief descriptions of each of the 21 missions.

The President of Pentacle Press gave a presentation to the California Mission Studies Association at their annual meeting in Carmel, California. The paper, "Questions 4th Graders, Their Parents and Adult Visitors Ask about the California Missions" reported on three and a half years of experience in answering website visitor questions in a special Ask the Expert feature in www.missionscalifornia.com An article summarizing this presentation will be published as part of the Annual Conference Proceedings in fall 2009.

Pentacle Press releases its second book on the Berkshires of Massachusetts Inside the Berkshires: Sixteen Journeys of Discovery. The book describes and illustrates journeys through all 32 towns of Berkshire County in 328 pages, generously illustrated with over 500 photographs.

The Unfolding History of the Berkshires won an Independent Book Publishers National Bronze Award in the category of Travel Guidebook. There were 3,175 publishers from 44 states and 15 countries who entered one or more of their 2007 books for consideration.

The January issue of The Artful Mind published an extensive article by Edward Bride on the Unfolding History of the Berkshires. It describes the book as a "fascinating new graphic and verbal timeline" that is a table-top book, reference book and travelogue that "combines all of these personae" with a result that "is a work of art."
